 Lyneham Primary lies within the leafy suburb of central North Canberra. Having close proximity with the City Centre (4km ), Australian National University(5.2km), Australian Catholic University (3km ), University of Canberra (6.6km ), Parliamentary Triangle (6.5km), AIS (2.7km), Bruce CIT (4.7km), Reid CIT (4.9km), Hall (14km), Murrumbateman (32km), Bungendore (37km) and Sutton (16km) makes it an ideal location for families. The school lies on a large area of green space that it shares with Lyneham High and Brindabella Christian School and is surrounded with bike paths and arterial roads like the Barton Highway,  Ginninderra Drive, Northbourne Avenue, Belconnen Way and Macarthur Avenue. The local Lyneham Shopping Centre is less than 50 metres away and comprises of three restaurants, Service Station, Post Office, Supermarket, Newsagency, Butcher, Pharmacy, Bakery, Salons, Medical Centre, Dentist and various specialty shops.

 Lyneham Primary School is a two storey building situated in the natural, attractive setting of the inner Canberra suburb of Lyneham. The school has predominantly traditional style single unit classrooms. In addition to the teaching areas Lyneham Primary has:

The school is generously supplied with convenient sporting fields and facilities. The school is well equipped with resources for classroom curriculum use, library borrowing, sport, outdoor education,  teacher programming and the creative arts.

 

Computers are used as part of everyday learning within classrooms. We are currently installing Interactive Whiteboards (IWB’s) in many classrooms. Internet access is used in classrooms and the library – Years P-2 utilise class logon accounts and Years 3-6 have individual accounts.

How are Classes Organised at Lyneham Primary?

 Class structure and organisation at Lyneham Primary School features: 

  •         Year levels ranging from Preschool to Year 6.
  •         classes comprising students at varying developmental stages. Each class has a special name, based on ane element of The Arts, selected by the children to fit with the overall theme of their team of classes. In 2008, the Early Team take their names from famous paintings, Junior Team take their names from styles of dance,  Middle Team take their names from styles of art work and Senior Team take their names from Contemporary art works.
  •         Ready access to School Counsellor
  •         an English as a Second Language (ESL) assistance program catering for those students coming from home environments where students primarily speak a language other than English.
  •         a Language Assistance (LA) program for students requiring additional support in a specific learning area.
  •         an Early Literacy Intervention Program to assist children in developing more efficient literacy strategies.
  •         all students participate in our Modern Greek Language program.
  •         a Support Class Language (SCL). The fully integrated class caters for children from K – 2 who are experiencing a Specific Language Impairment.


  •         Students from preschool to year 2 all have a specialist music program whilst year 3 - 6 classes have a specialist P.E. program.
  •         A Student Reporting and Monitoring Team that is committed to inclusive practices and philosophies .
  •         An Indigenous Education Worker to support our Indigenous Australian students.
  •         All students from Preschool to Year 6 receive a specialist dance program.
  •         Enrichment suite of programs which extend and promote children’s interests and talents as detailed in our ‘GET@Lyneham’  (Gifted Enrichment Talented program) pamphlet.

 

Our school also provides elective dance classes in Contemporary Street Funk and Irish styles. We have four vocal groups - Year 1 Prep Choir, Junior Choir, Senior Choir and the Lyneham Singers. we are involved in the ACT Instrumental Music Program and have many music tutors who teach our students in voice or a specific instrument.
