Lyneham Primary School has a strong tradition of providing a vigorous and well rounded Performing Arts program. There are strong connections with well known members of Canberra’s Arts community and students are provided with opportunities to extend their understandings.
The school has developed state-of-the-art facilities including an Arts/Science room, Music Room with acoustic ceiling, Dance Studio with full length barre, mirrors and a fully sprung tarquette floor, digital cameras and specialist computer equipment to develop multimedia presentations and a Hall facility which allows for performances, soirees, concerts and assemblies. Our Hall facility and Dance Studio have professional Audio Visual installations.
There are many dedicated and highly trained teachers who are always seeking to increase the opportunities available to students both inside and outside the classroom. Many of the staff who lead and teach in the Arts areas have been acknowledged for their expertise outside the school community. Staff are highly committed to technological innovation and to adapting technology to suit the needs of the student in the everyday classroom.
Students are regularly performing at conferences, soirees, ACT’s Step into the Limelight, community events, assemblies, talent development projects, Regional and State Dance and Drama Festivals. We also have a busy in-house annual calendar of events which allows all students the opportunity to perform for a public audience and to experience a ‘back stage’ environment. We have established an ongoing relationship with the Canberra Youth Theatre, local dancers Holly Diggle, Philip Piggin and Padma Menon as well as connections with the National Eisteddfod, Instrumental Music Program, Step into the Limelight and the Wakakirri Dance Festival. Our students are also generous in supporting our local community with free performances at significant events such as Public Education Day.
Music students are well supported with a Vocal Tutor Program and an Instrument Tutor Program whereby industry professionals provide small group or individual specialist tuition on a regular weekly basis. There are some extra-curricular ensembles that provide alternative opportunities for students wishing further extension activities.
