Lyneham Primary School students participate in weekly dance classes with Emily, a performer, choreographer and qualified Performing Arts teacher. Classes take place in the purpose-built dance studio and are designed to develop students’ fundamental movement skills, performance skills, making skills and responding skills as well as promote students’ fitness, well being and social inclusion.

Each lesson the students participate in a warm up with a focus on safe dance practice, and creative dance games that allow for improvisation, creative decision making, play and collaboration. Students steadily learn movements of a choreographed dance to complete a full routine by the end of the term. Students share their work in performances and are encouraged to respond by identifying the elements of dance, discussing personal improvement as well as effectively communicating through positive affirmation and constructive criticism.

Like all art forms, Dance has the capacity to engage, inspire and enrich all students, exciting the imagination and encouraging students to reach their creative and expressive potential.
